Produce Forecasting

Our engagement at this client was due to a pre-existing relationship from one of our directors who had consulted with this client in the past. One of the largest groceries in Australia, like many grocery chains they are continually looking for ways to achieve better forecasting in a low margin business. This project was really a subproject within overall replenishment planning. We ran a small proprietary model to perform forecasting of produce. This included factors of seasonality, trend and local projected temperature. Once this mock up was ready, we forecasted all categories of produce for this grocer. We then compared these results to what the current legacy systems were providing. Our consultants spent 3 months modifying the model. We next the set about incorporating these factors in the APO Demand Planning module. We ran the Demand Planning module off line and when we were satisfied with the results we implemented the module with the client resources. This overall project took 15 months.
